Oils and Pastels
My preferred medium is oils, and although I started with some Bob Ross paints - don’t we all love those ‘happy little trees’! - I now favour Rembrandt and Winsor & Newton oil paints.
For illustrating furry friends and wintry scenes, I tend to use pastel pencils as their softer, in ways more flexible capabilities, lend themselves to recreating the features of thick fur or snow. All my pastels in the gallery have been produced using a mixture of Derwent Pastel pencils and Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper.
I like to take photos of my work in progress. As I only paint at the weekends, it gives me a chance in between times to stand back from my work and consider bits that I need to re-visit. I enjoy looking back at these photos to remind myself how the picture developed over time.
